Spiro 4th and 5th grade Academic Teams Meet at Stigler’s Career Tech for Academic Contest

Spiro’s 4th and 5th grade GT students participated in an academic contest at Stigler’s Career Tech on January 22. Schools from Haskell, LeFlore, Latimer, Pittsburg, Muskogee, and Cherokee Counties competed for awards in math, science, language arts, and social studies.  Eleven awards were won by 4th graders and twenty-two by 5th graders.
4th graders winning awards were the following:  Joshua Hogan – 2nd Language Arts, 2nd Science, 3rd Social Studies, and 6th Math. Mason Matlock – 1st Social Studies, 3rd Math, and 6th Language Arts.  Trinity McAlister – 4th Social Studies, 5th Science, and 5th Language Arts.  Piper Duvall – 4th Social Studies.
5th graders winning awards were the following:  Nizhoni Lowe – 1st Language Arts, 2nd Science, 2nd Social Studies, and 6th Math.  Blake Dedmon – 1st Science, 2nd Social Studies, 2nd Math,  and 2nd Language Arts.  Parker Gray – 1st Social Studies.  Nico Kinney – 3rd Science and 4th Language Arts.  Corey Howell – 2nd Math and 4th Language Arts.  Calloway Warren – 5th Math.  Gannon Shackleford – 3rd Social Studies and 3rd Science.  Madilyn Lovell – 3rd Science and 4th Language Arts. Averie McRorey – 5th Language Arts and 6th Math. Brayden Shirley – 5th Science.  Haylie Woods – 5th Language Arts. The academic coach is Jean Henderson, and Tara Harper coordinates Gifted Education Activities at the upper elementary.
